Complete Piano Works

Pianist and musicologist Pablo V. Marquine is one of the leading living pianists dedicated to championing Brazilian concert music. His completed recordings of the entire solo piano works of Claudio Santoro and César Guerra-Peixe combine scholarly research, artistic interpretation, and the preservation of musical heritage. The Santoro collection comprises four volumes and 118 tracks, encompassing more than five hours of music. The Guerra-Peixe collection comprises five volumes and 133 tracks, organized into Preludes, Solo Pieces, Albums, Suites, and Sonatas and Sonatinas. Together, these projects constitute nine volumes and 251 tracks devoted to two central figures of twentieth-century Brazilian music.

Both projects received public funding through the Federal District’s Cultural Support Fund (FAC-DF), one of Brazil’s foremost cultural funding mechanisms. This support connects artistic achievement and scholarly documentation with broader public access to Brazilian musical heritage. Nationally, the recordings make substantial bodies of repertoire accessible to performers, students, researchers, and audiences. Internationally, their availability through streaming platforms supports concert programming, teaching, and comparative musicological research, expanding the presence of Brazilian composers within the global piano repertoire.

Marquine’s distinctive contribution lies in his combined expertise as a concert pianist and musicologist. His work brings historical understanding and musical analysis into dialogue with performance, contributing to the contemporary study, interpretation, and dissemination of Brazilian piano music.

The lasting historical significance of these collections lies in the comprehensive recorded legacy they preserve. By presenting Santoro and Guerra-Peixe beyond their best-known compositions, they reveal the breadth and development of each composer’s musical thought. This work safeguards Brazilian artistic memory, provides resources for future generations of performers and scholars, and strengthens the place of Brazilian music within the wider history of concert music.

Contemporary Piano Music

Alongside his research and recordings of Brazilian historical repertoire, Pablo V. Marquine maintains an active engagement with contemporary composition through dedicated works, world premieres, and performances of new music. Documented examples include Navid Bargrizan’s Der Schoene Berg: A Salute to Arnold Schoenberg (2017), a solo piano work dedicated to Marquine, and his world premiere of a composition by Mobeus Goswami at the 2025 Brasília Orchestral Summit. The same festival programmed him as soloist in Gordon Green’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra and featured music by Henrique Coe in his solo recital. His contemporary repertoire also encompasses projects involving Theo Popov’s Variâncias, Melvyn Cann’s Pablo’s Symphonic Poem, and a three-movement piano concerto by Mário Olinto. Together, these activities connect his work as an interpreter and musicologist with living composers and the development of new piano repertoire, extending his contribution from the preservation of musical heritage to the creation of its future.

Faces of Brazilian Piano

Faces do Piano Brasileiro (FPB) is an artistic and educational project founded by pianists Pablo V. Marquine and Diogo Monzo in 2015. Emerging from their musicological research at the University of Brasília, it explores the connections between Brazilian classical and popular piano traditions through concerts, lecture-recitals, recordings, and educational activities. Its repertoire highlights composers such as Claudio Santoro, César Guerra-Peixe, Luiz Eça, and Hermeto Pascoal, revealing the diversity of Brazilian musical expression and encouraging dialogue across genres. With performances in Brazil and abroad, FPB combines artistic interpretation with research and audience development, bringing Brazilian piano music to concert halls, schools, and other cultural spaces. The project contributes to the preservation and international dissemination of Brazilian musical heritage while fostering new opportunities for performance, learning, and contemporary creation.
