COMPLETE PIANO WORKS
Claudio Santoro: Complete Work for Solo Piano
Claudio Santoro (1919–1989) was a Brazilian composer, conductor, and violinist, and a central figure in twentieth-century Brazilian music. Born in Manaus, he participated in the Música Viva movement and studied with Hans-Joachim Koellreutter and, later, Nadia Boulanger in Paris. His music reflects a continually evolving artistic vision, encompassing twelve-tone experimentation, Brazilian nationalism, and later avant-garde approaches. His extensive output includes symphonies, concertos, chamber music, vocal works, and piano compositions. Pianist and musicologist Pablo V. Marquine recorded Santoro’s complete solo piano works in a four-volume collection comprising 118 tracks and more than five hours of music. Released between 2017 and 2025, the volumes feature the preludes, individual piano pieces, piano albums, and sonatas and sonatinas. Combining scholarly research with performance, the project documents the breadth of Santoro’s piano writing and contributes to the preservation and international dissemination of Brazilian musical heritage.
This volume brings together Santoro’s solo piano preludes, revealing his expressive range through concise musical forms. The collection highlights the interplay of lyricism, harmonic exploration, and contrasting pianistic textures, offering a broad perspective on his evolving musical language.
This volume presents Santoro’s individual piano pieces, showcasing the diversity of his writing beyond the prelude and sonata. Contrasting forms, moods, and compositional approaches reveal the piano as a space for both intimate expression and experimentation.
Dedicated to Santoro’s piano albums, this volume explores collections of shorter pieces conceived as larger musical groupings. Their varied characters and textures illuminate his ability to create expressive worlds through compact forms, balancing accessibility with artistic sophistication.

Performed by pianist and musicologist Pablo V. Marquine, the four volumes collectively comprise 118 tracks and more than five hours of music.
