Research on Music Asthetics, Politics, and Affect

My research on musicology integrates musical analysis, historical inquiry, and performance, with a particular focus on Brazilian modernism. My master's research analyzed musical topics and expression in the piano works of Claudio Santoro, exploring how musical structures convey expressive meaning. My doctoral work investigated Santoro’s relationship with the Group Música Viva and German modernism, examining the role of dodecaphonic composition in the development of the Brazilian musical avant-garde. I have continued this work through manuscript research, score editing, and the recording of Santoro’s complete works for solo piano. More recently, I have expanded my research into the fields of creativity and musical improvisation. My study, “What Sound is This?”, maps contemporary Brazilian doctoral research on creative processes in improvisation, identifying conceptual patterns, methodological approaches, and gaps between different disciplines.
